Care and maintenance

Solid wood, linen and unfinished cedar all move with the seasons — a few honest habits keep a piece steady for decades instead of years.

Start with the piece itself, not this page

Every product page carries a Care line in its specification, drawn from what the workshop that made that specific piece actually recommends — walnut, elm, bamboo, cedar and linen each ask for different handling. Treat that field as the primary instruction; what follows here is the general pattern behind it.

Wood

Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth after each session — standing water is the main enemy of an oil finish. Most solid-wood pieces ask for an oil or beeswax reapplication every few months to a year; direct sunlight and heating vents accelerate drying and should be avoided where possible.

Drainage channels and trays

On tables with an integrated channel or tray, flush and dry the channel after each session rather than letting spent water sit overnight — residue left in a groove is what eventually stains the surrounding wood.

Textiles

Linen cushion covers are generally machine-washable on a cool cycle and should be line-dried in shade. Woven rush mats and cotton-batting mats are spot-cleaned rather than machine-washed.

Unsure about a specific piece

Email us the product name and we’ll confirm care instructions before you commit to a piece, especially for anything not yet listed with a Care line.
